Exploring the Great Outdoors: Your Ultimate Camping Adventure Awaits
If you want to create wonderful memories and embrace the great outdoors, then why not consider a family camping trip! There’s nothing quite like sleeping under the stars and taking in beauty around us. Camping trips also help us step away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, reminding us to pause and take stock of everything that’s good in the world!
What makes camping such a popular activity is the fact that it can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. However, it’s no secret that every camping trip takes some planning and preparation.
Luckily, the experts at Hatton Country World know exactly what’s needed for a memorable and enjoyable camping trip that will be talked about for years to come. After all, we’ve had thousands of campers pitch their tent in our camping site, nestled in the picturesque Warwickshire countryside.
8 step guide to planning a memorable camping trip
Choose the right campsite
The first thing you want to tick off the list is researching suitable campsites in the UK. You’ll want to know if they are family-friendly or better suited to adults looking for a quiet getaway.
You should make sure the sites you’re considering have facilities such as clean toilets, hot showers and ample safe parking. If you’re planning on bringing the family dog, it’s important to check the campsites you’re looking at are dog friendly.
If you are bringing the kids, you should also think about whether you want a campsite that has on-site activities, its proximity to attractions, and the location itself.
Hatton Country World caters to tents, motorhomes and caravans, and has toilets and showers onsite.
Hatton Adventure World and Hatton Shopping Village is just a stone’s throw away, along with an 5 star rated escape rooms, laser combat, regular events and some spectacular rural walks.
Our award-winning pub and restaurant, The Hatton Arms is within walking distance, guaranteeing something for everyone.
Book your spot (and any planned activities)
Once you’ve decided on your campsite, it’s time to book your spot! It is critical you book in advance if you’re going during peak seasons or school holidays, as camp sites tend to fill up quickly. The same goes with popular outdoor activities and attractions.
Booking ahead ensures you have a guaranteed spot and avoids disappointment. We open our booking system for camping and caravanning at Hatton Country World in early Spring – you can book online!
Get your camping gear ready
The next step is getting all your camping gear ready. Essential equipment includes:
- A tent
- Sleeping mats or air mattresses
- Sleeping bags
- Camping chairs
- A portable stove
- Cooking utensils
- A lantern
- A torch
- A multi-tool
If you’re on a tighter budget, consider buying second hand camping gear on places such as eBay or Facebook Marketplace. Friends and family members may also have camping equipment you can borrow!
Pack clothing for the UK weather
It is no secret that the UK weather can be unpredictable, so it’s important to pack suitable clothing just in case it does start raining or the temperature drops. Pack waterproof clothing such as rain jackets, and warm layers such as thick jumpers. Don’t forget to include sunscreen, sunglasses and hats – this can help prevent heat stroke.
If you’re planning on hiking or going on any outdoor adventures, make sure to pack comfortable footwear.
If you can’t afford to kit out a brand-new holiday wardrobe for your family, don’t worry! Websites such as Vinted or even charity shops offer some brilliant discounts. Shopping second hand not only saves money, but is great for the environment, as you’re reducing the amount of clothes ending up in landfill.
Plan your meals
The great thing about camping is that the food can be as cheap or as expensive as you make it.
Prepare a menu for your camping trip. Opt for easy-to-cook meals like hot dogs, beans on toast, sandwiches, and one-pot dishes that don’t require complex cooking equipment. Don’t forget snacks and plenty of water.
You’ll want a mix of perishable and nonperishable items, from fresh fruit to canned goods such as spaghetti hoops , and dried foodstuffs such as noodles, you can get quite creative!
If budget allows, have a look at any restaurants, cafes or food options nearby.
The Hatton Arms is a short walk away from Hatton Country World Campsite and provides a truly exceptional experience for all. Our dog friendly pub has a beautiful garden with rolling countryside views, and our produce is sourced both locally and direct from our privately owned Hatton Estate.
Book your activities
Plan outdoor activities that everyone can enjoy.

Practice setting up your tent
Setting up a tent can be an experience – especially if you’re doing it on your own!
Before you head to the campsite, practice setting up your tent at home or in the garden. You could even make this an activity for the family, and camp out in the garden to practice! Familiarising yourself with the process will make the setup at the campsite smoother.
Respect nature and stay safe
Safety is paramount during camping trips. Familiarise yourself with emergency procedures at the campsite and carry a first aid kit. Keep a close eye on children, especially near water or campfires.
Teach your family about ‘Leave No Trace’ principles, which encourage responsible outdoor behaviour to minimise the impact on nature. Leave your campsite clean and dispose of waste properly.
