Amazing day out in the countryside…

Hatton Country World

With summer well and truly here and the English countryside at its best, we’re all looking for a Day Out or two and, with interest rates at their current level, preferably ones that don’t have a massive price tag.

Hatton Country World lies in the rolling Warwickshire countryside, just a short distance from the M42 and M40, combines retail therapy with the iconic ‘Hatton 21 Locks ‘, a famous country pub, country walks and even award winning Escape Rooms.

Hatton Country World started life over 40 years ago in some enchanting brick and tile farm buildings, previously home to a herd of Red Poll cows, but now a Garden Centre and some 15 independent traders; the nooks and crannies of the old buildings are literally stuffed with all kinds of lovely gifts, crafts, jewels and cafes. There’s a feeling of rural tranquillity, a place where time has stood still and old-fashioned courtesies rule; it’s about as far away from the High Street as you can get – shopping as it should be.

The Gardener’s Retreat and Hole in the Wall provide plenty of sustenance in the shopping village but for those who want a longer trip a visit to “The Stairway to Heaven “- the longest flight of Locks on the whole Grand Union Canal between London and Birmingham – is a Must. The locks which opened the same year as the Battle of Trafalgar are lined up on St Mary’s Warwick, the county’s impressive centrepiece. And there is a truly iconic view down them and some 20 miles across to the Cotswolds from the Estate’s pub, the Hatton Arms. It’s an old coaching inn that has been beautifully refurbished and is famous for its food as well as its views.

Also, easy to get to – either 5 minutes by car or a special walk across farmland down the canal from Hatton Country World, a circular walk of 1½ miles, broken of course by some drinks or a meal at the pub!

Several dishes from the Hatton Arms Pub in Warwickshire, served on the terrace overlooking the grand union canal and famous Hatton 21 flight of locks.

But for those who’d prefer to stay at Hatton Country World, there are also now Tulleys Escape Rooms – Mutiny and The Outfitters, both rated as the two top Escape Rooms in the Midlands.

All in all, a lovely summer treat. Who said a delightful day out had to break the bank?
