Alan Wright Handmade Bespoke Jewellery Design

Alan discovered his love for sculpture and design whilst attending art school in 1965. He then focused on making jewellery at Central St. Martin’s School of Art in London, where he gained a first-class honours degree.
After his degree, Alan worked in the jewellery casting industry for six years and subsequently set up a studio at Hatton Country World. He’s been producing handmade jewellery and silverware there ever since.
In the early years, a Middle Eastern agent gave Alan the chance to undertake important commissions for clients in Kuwait and Qatar, and for the Sultaness of Brunei. This enabled him to develop both design skills and collaborative projects to create very special, high-quality pieces of art.
Also at this time, Alan’s work was exhibited and sold through Liberty & Co. — a time when the company actively encouraged individual artists and craftspeople.
In 1989 Alan was admitted as a freeman to the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.

Handmade jewellery using traditional techniques with a modern twist

For his own bespoke jewellery designs, Alan employs traditional hand crafting techniques using gold, silver, and bronze, together with more modern materials like titanium and niobium. (He was one of the first jewellers to use titanium when it was introduced in 1968.)
Alan’s other favoured medium is slate, onto which he applies metal leaf, creating images similar to those that inspire his jewellery, but on a larger scale.
A range of handmade jewellery and slate pictures is always available at the studio, and Alan welcomes commissions to create bespoke jewellery gifts for special occasions.
